Who doesn’t love a good custom job?
Across Canada, municipalities are breathing new life into aging arenas and community centres, either through full upgrades or thoughtful additions. These facilities are the heart of local recreation, and outdated spectator seating just doesn’t cut it anymore.
Here at Sport Systems, we’re proud to partner on these projects, delivering state-of-the-art spectator seating that meets modern demands. Gone are the days of cold concrete risers or worn-out wooden bleachers that should have been retired years ago. Today’s installations must fully comply with the National Building Code (NBC) requirements for spectator seating, prioritizing safety, durability, and inclusivity.
Modern spectator areas need to be completely barrier-free and accessible to everyone who wants to enjoy the game, whether they’re cheering from the stands or watching with mobility aids. Optimal sight lines, enhanced comfort (especially in those chilly rink environments), and thoughtful design make all the difference.
In one of our most recent projects, we were called out to the Nick Smith Arena in Arnprior, Ontario after this community gem underwent a major revitalization. Kicking things off on Rink ‘A’ (Rink ‘B’ coming soon!), our team installed a total of 781 fixed spectator seats, plus 56 floor-mounted folding seats for added flexibility. The project also featured dedicated barrier-free seating areas and companion seats, ensuring the space is welcoming and inclusive for all visitors, including families, fans with disabilities, seniors, and everyone in between.
The result? A bright, comfortable, and fully accessible viewing experience that elevates the entire arena atmosphere. Spectators now enjoy better sight lines, superior comfort even in the cold, and a layout that feels modern and community-focused.
Early feedback from the community has been incredibly positive including many local residents vocalizing how much of an upgrade this seating section is to this community arena. That kind of response makes every custom project worthwhile.
This is just another example of how Sport Systems helps Canadian municipalities create safer, more enjoyable spaces for hockey, figure skating, public skating, and community events.
Stay tuned for an upcoming post on Rink B—we’ve got more exciting details to share from this revitalization!
