COVID-19 & Preparation for the 2020-21 School Year

Written by Ryan Wilby | Aug 27, 2020 6:53:00 AM

As anyone can reasonably expect, there has been a lot of talk about the 2020-21 school year and athletic programming. While few know how this year will shape up, there are plans currently being put in place in states and provinces across North America to ensure a safe return to school.

With the outbreak of COVID-19 earlier this year, schools and countless numbers of businesses were instantly shuttered in the interest of public safety. Following these abrupt closures came a lot of questions, not only about how students would complete the school year, but what this could potentially mean for next year’s students.

The safety of our children continues to be of chief concern as we approach the new school year. Educators, school boards and districts alike are mobilizing to ensure these safety measures are implemented as effectively as possible. While many rules and regulations differ from one state or province to the next, many of them require the conversion of certain areas and spaces both inside and outside of schools and other educational facilities.

The Conversion of Spaces

If there is one thing for certain among the uncertainty, it is that schools will look different for at least the near future. One change will be the conversion of large spaces inside and outside of schools into classrooms, exam rooms and study halls.

Areas such as gymnasiums, libraries, auditoriums and cafeterias are being transformed to accommodate physical distancing requirements and safety standards.

The Question of Protection

Converting these kinds of spaces into learning areas comes with heavy foot traffic as well as wear from desks and chairs, so many facility managers and school administrators are looking for solutions to protect their flooring.

As such, we have been fielding an array of questions and inquiries regarding our customized gym floor covers. With our in-house design team, we are able to provide custom solutions fit for any space and have them deployed to customers across North America as quickly as required to suit these new guidelines.
