New arenas and major renovations across Canada keep calling on Sport Systems for custom arena bleachers, especially in those instances when barrier-free seating, elevated sightlines, and a clean closed-deck system are non-negotiable. The Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena in Airdrie, Alberta is a recent example where all of those factors came into play.

Sitting just north of Calgary in one of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities, the twin-pad facility has been a cornerstone of local hockey, ringette, and skating since it opened back in 1991. It carries the name of Ron Ebbesen, a builder who spent years pushing for more ice, stronger minor hockey, and a girls’ program so that Airdrie talent would have a proper home. After a mid-life renovation last year, that home now includes seating worthy of the next generation of fans.

Our design team was invited by the architects in the early planning stages, allowing the bleachers to be properly integrated into both rink pads from the start. That early collaboration made all the difference as the arena seating had to be elevated for clear spectator sightlines over the dasher boards, it had to be fully accessible, and built with a fully closed deck plus our contoured seat modules for real comfort in an arena environment.

Our dealer Omni Sport was part of the bigger picture on this project and did a bang-up job of installing the dasher boards along with our custom bleachers.

On the North Rink we installed a two-row elevated bleacher that seats 203 people, including five barrier-free spaces. On the South Rink a five-row elevated system is now in place and comfortably seats nearly 400 spectators, including eight barrier-free seats. Together they give families, players, and fans unobstructed views, code-compliant accessibility, and a durable, low-maintenance deck that stays clean in a high-use twin-pad facility.

The systems were installed in the summer of 2025 but, as luck would have it, we happened to be passing through Airdrie last month and were able to capture photos of the finished seating in place.
