They take a beating every day. With a constant barrage of students sitting and standing on them, not to mention the endless dragging of equipment across them, over time that constant use starts to show. Despite the near indestructible nature of our padding, the reality is most schools reach out for replacement or updated stage padding roughly every eight years for this very reason. We recently completed a significant custom stage pad upgrade for our friends at the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB), which looked a lot like what we described above. With a new padding solution required, we planned and eventually delivered a practical, durable solution built around our own hinged stage pad design. Unlike many stage pads that force staff to hold the entire panel horizontally so others can reach under-stage storage, our hinged design lets one person lift from the bottom and flip the pad up onto the stage. Storage stays accessible without extra hands or unnecessary awkward manoeuvring. The pads still deliver full protection with a 6-inch return that covers the top edge of the stage and secures with Velcro, while the heavy-duty vinyl cover and high-density foam stand up to the daily wear and tear of gym use. [![bishop-stage-padding-side](https://blog.sportsystemscanada.com/hs-fs/hubfs/bishop-stage-padding-side.jpg?width=1000&height=750&name=bishop-stage-padding-side.jpg)](https://blog.sportsystemscanada.com/hubfs/bishop-stage-padding-side-full.jpg) For this project, we also added digital printing. Matching the school’s name and their unwavering school spirit, the pads feature the word “BISHOP” printed large across the face in the school’s colours. The result is clean, high-impact branding that won’t peel or fade the way older vinyl lettering sometimes does. Schools can choose solid colours, logos, or custom text—whatever best matches their identity and spirit. This RCCDSB project continues a long relationship with the board. Earlier work across several of their schools included wall padding, stage pads, and bleacher padding tailored to OPHEA guidelines and local needs. The latest hinged stage pads give staff easier daily access while giving athletes a safer, more professional-looking gym. If your school’s stage pads are showing their age, or if you’re planning a full gym safety upgrade, our custom padding team can design, manufacture, and ship solutions that fit your exact stage dimensions, colours, and access requirements.
