Here’s what municipalities and rec operators should know about the $500 million CSRIF intake now open.* We were proud to host Ontario’s Minister of Sport, Brian Saunderson, and Aaron Prance from his office in our facility last week. As part of their tour, they were looking at the same things facility operators and managers are often in search of, including accessible bleacher systems, gymnasium equipment, wall padding solutions and outdoor basketball systems built for the Canadian elements. The official [Ontario Sport](https://www.ontario.ca/page/ministry-sport) recap of that Ottawa trip also included a visit to an Ottawa Rapid FC practice and a stop at the Alexander Community Centre. The purpose of these three visits aligned with the goal of the recently-improved Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF) who's stated purpose is to create more places to play, facilities that last longer, and invest in infrastructure that communities can host events in. **What the CSRIF is** The Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund is a competitive provincial, application-based [grant program](https://www.sportsystemscanada.com/grants-funding/) from the Ministry of Sport. The CSRIF is a $500 million program that provides funding to municipalities, Indigenous communities, non-profit organizations and (for new builds only) for-profit organizations through two program streams for projects that: **Repair or Upgrade Existing Sport and Recreation Facilities (Stream 1):** These funds can be used to extend the life of what you already have. Typical ask range sits in the neighbourhood of $100,000 to $1 million, depending on intake guidelines. **Build New and Transformative Sport and Recreation Facilities (Stream 2):** These funds are earmarked for net-new facilities, transformative expansions or replacements, including higher-profile “signature” projects. Funding can go up to $10 million. The CSRIF is a cost-shared program and provincial contributions can reach up to 90 percent for Indigenous communities and Indigenous not-for-profit organizations, and up to 50 percent for municipalities and other not-for-profit organizations. Applicants are expected to cover the remaining share and complete eligible work within the timelines set out in the program guidelines.     If you are a municipality, school, First Nation, or non-profit lining up a CSRIF ask and you need accessible bleacher seating, or padding scoped to a grant package, that is the conversation we are built for. Even though applications are made directly to the province, you remain free to use us for the part that has to be engineered, fabricated, and installed on time.
