As we work our way into the month of July, our installation team remains busy with on-site visits and unique installations of athletic infrastructure across the country. Given the busy sport seasons that begin in the spring and start or extend through the summer months and into the fall, our team is firing on all cylinders.
We were commissioned recently by Life Time Athletic to complete a large project that was to span across two phases of work for their gymnasium. The first phase involved the design, supply and installation of basketball backstops, followed by the second phase that consisted of fire-resistant wall padding to be custom fit to the unique design of the gymnasium.
Phase 1 – Custom Installed Basketball Backstops
Life Time Athletic ordered a pair of ceiling-suspended, wall-braced basketball backstops with professionally sized glass backboards, breakaway goals and PMCE bolt-on backboard padding. This installation was unique as the basketball backstops were to be hung from concrete tee beams in the ceiling as opposed to a typical open web steel joist. Our design team quickly got to work with a customized through-bolt style anchor/clamp design attached to the concrete roof structure to secure the backstops safely in place.
Phase 2 – Custom Wall Padding
While needs vary from facility to facility, there are specific areas of a gymnasium that should be equipped with wall padding to prevent injuries during high-speed sports such as basketball. In this case, Life Time Athletic opted to order complete wall padding for their gymnasium, tumbling room and boxing room using our PV-53-1-FR fire-rated padding which meets the requirements of the CAN/ULC-S102 tested as an assembly.
With the varying heights and angles of each room, attention to detail was of the utmost importance when designing this padding. We completely padded all areas needed with a number of custom-sized pads, giving the facility a completely customized padding solution for the facility.
