Custom Stairways and Handrails for a Local Arena

Located just west of Canada’s Capital lies the quaint and quiet village of Carp, Ontario. Anchored for years by historic Diefenbunker Museum, the small rural town has grown significantly after amalgamation with the City of Ottawa. Today the community retains its historic charm while offering residents charming restaurants, and parks along with a brewery and a vineyard.

As part of one of our most recent projects, we were commissioned by the city to design and install a unique set of stairways for use with some existing wooden bleachers inside the local arena.

Serving as home to the West Carleton Warriors hockey clubs, along with a number of other teams and events, the W. Erskine Johnson Arena serves as a local hub in Carp, located on the town’s infamous fairgrounds.

Inside the arena, spectators complained of difficulties in accessing the bleacher seating, particularly the top rows where access could be limited due to high rise levels in the steps, especially to seniors.  As part of the project, our team was contracted to design accessible stairways complete with handrails and cut out sections of the bleachers themselves to accommodate the new aluminum stairways.

After the designs were approved by the city and key stakeholders at the rink, the fabrication process began and our team was quickly dispatched to the local arena, not far from our corporate headquarters.
