Easy Basketball System Maintenance

When making any sort of investment into athletic equipment for your facility maintenance should always be on top of mind. Sport Systems' products and equipment are all built to last, but adding a regular maintenance schedule to your basketball equipment and systems will keep them in good working order for many years to come, and protect your investment.

Here are 3 Things we always recommend doing to keep your basketball systems in tip-top shape:

Backboard Cleaning

This is particularly true with regards to outdoor basketball systems that are constantly tested not only by the participants, but also the elements and Mother Nature.  Keeping your backboard clean will keep it in great shape, no matter what material it happens to be made out of.

To clean your backboard, simply rinse the backboard with lukewarm water and wash gently using a soft cotton cloth and a mild soap.  Be sure not to scrub too hard, as you do not want to accidentally remove any protective coating.   Repeat the cleaning steps a couple of times to ensure a thorough cleaning and then pat dry using a dry soft cotton cloth.

Pole Maintenance

As with all metals, many outdoor elements can cause unneeded wear and tear over time on your basketball pole.  Keeping as much organic materials away from the pole and base is your best bet at long-term protection.  Grass, grass clippings, litter and garbage can all cause corrosion over time if the metal finish ends up being penetrated.  Keep the area as clean as possible, and avoid unsightly corrosion and rust on your basketball pole.

Rust Treatment

Treating any areas where rust might be forming is a great preventative measure.  In removing, treating and re-painting any affected areas, you are ensuring the steel itself does not begin to rust in any way.  If rust is appearing on your pole, remove the loose paint, sand the surface lightly and paint the affected area with exterior enamel paint.

More often than not, the outdoor elements can prove to be a worthy opponent when fighting to protect your outdoor basketball equipment.  If you can find the time to work in the above 3 steps into your regular maintenance schedule, it should prove to be beneficial to both your equipment and your facility's bottom line.
