Gym Floor Covering for Various Training Exercises

Gymnasium flooring is a large investment and as facility operators and managers, we want to protect and maintain our flooring as much as possible to extend its lifecycle. While most of our gym floor covers provide more than adequate protection for gyms hosting special events, dances and assemblies, there are a wide variety of other exercises used in gyms around the world that are in need of a more customized solution to protecting their investment.

In the spring of 2014 the Canadian Armed Forces approached us to design and fabricate a solution for use in tandem with some of their mandatory training exercises. As part of a new fitness standards program, one exercise requires participants to drag and pull multiple sandbags for over 20 meters. Over time, the gym floor in the training facility suffered major damage as a result of this exercise.

We created our Sand Bag Floor Cover, specifically designed for use with the Canadian Armed Forces as per their request and unknowingly created a versatile product that would soon be used not only by our military clientele, but also in a number of other applications as well.

Aside from military use, these customized gym floor covers are also used by police, security and other uniformed services across North America with great success. In addition to the above, we have also found that these systems are perfect for those in the exploding health and fitness world.

With the emergence and success of fitness programs such as CrossFit, people are turning to less-than-traditional methods of exercise and weight training, much like that of the Canadian Military. Today, gyms and fitness facilities have incorporated exercises such as tire drags and flips, weight dragging and sled training to their repertoire of workouts for their demanding clients. While some of these facilities may have alternate flooring installed such as durable rubber, many facilities have wood and other surfaces that are susceptible to damage. In many cases, we have found this product to actually increase usable space in gyms, allowing operators to use floor space that might not have otherwise been capable of handling the duress of some of these exercises.

While our sand bag floor covers are perfect for sand bag training as the name suggests, we are finding more fitness facilities turning to this product to protect their flooring from harm, with activities such as aggressive sled pulls and pushes and the dragging of large sized iron weights.
