Keeping the Abilities Centre in Shape with our Annual Maintenance Program

It was 2018 when we first hooked up with the great people at the Abilities Centre in Whitby, Ontario. Serving as a hub for accessible and inclusive sports, fitness and life skills training, the facility called on us to help them solve a problem with some existing basketball units in their gymnasium.

After assessing the issues related to the equipment, we installed six new ceiling-suspended basketball units for them. Given the unique size and shape of the facility, our engineering team was challenged, but ultimately rose to the occasion.

Given the amount of traffic the Abilities Centre receives, they immediately asked us about our annual service and maintenance options. When it comes to children, safety is of primary concern for most facilities today, and that sentiment was no different with the stakeholders at the Abilities Centre.

We’ve been consistently contracted by the facility to take a look at all of the moving parts and equipment inside the gymnasium for the past few years following the installation. Given the sometimes unique hours of this facility, like many others, our inspection team will often perform their inspections throughout the night so as to not disrupt current programming.

Our team works closely with the facility staff to arrange for the proper scissor lift to be on site and the required floor protection is in place. Having the ability to get up into the hard-to-reach spaces above those playing below is where the real inspection work takes place.

Our service includes but is not limited to:

  • Inspecting and repairing frayed and worn cables
  • Inspecting and repairing pulleys and motors
  • Inspecting and replacing safety straps as required
  • Motors are checked for oil leaks and wear and tear
  • Hardware is inspected and tightened as needed throughout the entire system

  •

Upon completion Sport Systems provides a complete service report of all the repairs and recommendations are provided to the Facilities Manager. We enjoy the relationship we have with the staff over at the Abilities Centre and we always look forward to working with them.

If your facility is in need of a service or inspection, there is no better time than the present to book a detailed inspection. As we stated above, our crews are available to work around the clock to ensure your equipment does too.
