New Retractable Bleachers for Mayfield Recreation Centre

Located just north of the city of Brampton, our latest project brought us to Caledon, a small town in the Greater Toronto Area.  The site of the project took place at the Mayfield Recreation Complex, nestled along the border between Brampton and Caledon.

This facility is home to a 180’ x 80’ ice hockey arena, a 25 metre, 6-lane pool and a community room that can accommodate up to 40 patrons.

Earlier in the summer, key stakeholders with the town of Caledon came to us to discuss the possibility of removing their existing retractable bleachers, which were described to be “at the end of life,” as well as replace them with a brand new system that would fit the existing space.

With one caveat:

It being the dog days of summer, organizers wanted to have their pool remain open as much as possible, even through the renovation period.  In the end, it was agreed that the pool would be closed for just 3 short days, as all incoming and outgoing parts and debris needed to be transported directly across the pool’s main deck area.

For this reason, timing, safety and cleanliness were of the utmost importance for management of the recreation complex.

Ahead of the scheduled closing, our team back at the office got to work designing the perfect solution for the facility, despite a few small challenges.  Our designers were tasked with creating a delayed reaction system which could fit within the constraints of the designated enclosed seating area.

Upon the completion and approval of all site designs, our installation crew was deployed to the Toronto area and quickly got to work on the demolition of the outdated bleachers.  Ahead of schedule, our team was successful in removing the entire bank of existing bleachers, along with all debris on day one, and managed to begin installing the new system before their heads hit the pillow that evening.

The remainder of the installation went according to plan, allowing the facility to re-open the pool area on schedule, just as planned.
