With February 8, 2016 marking the Chinese New Year, one of our most recent projects landed us at the largest Chinese New Year Festivals in Canada. Showcasing a diversity of Asian culture and community, the Lunar Chinese New Year Festival kicked off on February 5, 2016 and ran for a total of three days.

Delighting guests with an in-depth cultural tour, the festival displays an amazing series of decorations and demonstrations spread over 36,000 square feet of space. The festival was held at the Markham Pan Am Centre location in Markham, Ontario and was home to four Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am competitions including badminton, water polo, table tennis and para table tennis.

The 147,000 square foot facility boasts an Olympic-sized swimming pool, 36,000 square foot gymnasium featuring 12 badminton courts, 6 volleyballcourts and 2 basketball courts and a two-level fitness centre.

As part of the Lunar Chinese New Year Festival, organizers were interested in exploring options for protecting the floors of the gymnasium to accommodate their vivid displays. We were eventually matched up with organizers of the event and together we determined that a 30oz gym floor cover would best suit the facility and the organizer’s needs.

In addition to supplying the floor cover, organizers expressed interest that ideally the product they chose would have the ability to be shipped fully-assembled, to aid in adhering to time-constraints on their end. The cover and gym cover storage racks were assembled in our warehouse, packaged and shipped via freight to the Markham Pan Am Centre. The location was not equipped with a loading dock, so the unloading process involved a couple of flat-bed truck transfers to safely lower the product to the ground.

The gym floor cover was then installed quickly, safely and efficiently by the organizers of the Lunar Chinese New Year Festival.
