As part of continuing to Build a Better Game for all of our clients, partners and customers, keeping an eye on growing industry trends is something that is second nature to our team. One such trend we’ve most certainly been noticing lately is that architects and designers are turning to our sales and design team early for custom arena bleacher projects. Whether it’s a full new build or an upgrade to an existing facility, the goal seems to be the same in most cases: deliver seating that meets today’s strict building code requirements while providing accessible, comfortable, and high-capacity viewing experiences.
The truth is, every arena project brings its own set of unique challenges and early collaboration sets the stage for the proper customization to fit the existing space, all while ensuring code-compliant egress and accessibility, which includes barrier-free seating.
Our team thrives on these challenges, engineering bleachers that integrate seamlessly into the venue while delivering long-term value, leading us to one of our more recent projects at the Brian Orser Arena (now part of the Gill Street Community Complex) in Orillia, Ontario.
Originally built in 1974 as Twin Lakes Arena and renamed in 1984 to honour Olympic figure skating champion Brian Orser, this beloved community facility serves Orillia’s residents with hockey, lacrosse, figure skating, and other recreational programs.
As part of a major renovation project, the arena required two banks of elevated bleachers to enhance spectator viewing. Our design and drawing package was reviewed, approved, and the project was awarded to our team in early 2025. During that summer, our experienced installation crew arrived on site with a truckload of unassembled components and expertly assembled the custom bleachers right inside the arena.
The result of the installation was two impressive banks of elevated seating that now provide barrier-free accessibility for all visitors, while delivering excellent sightlines to the action on the ice. In total, the new seating accommodates approximately 180 spectators comfortably and safely.
This project perfectly demonstrates how thoughtful custom design can transform a community arena. Families, athletes, and fans in Orillia can now enjoy games and events with better access, improved visibility, and modern amenities, all while the venue maintains its role as a hub for local recreation.
We’re proud to have contributed to the revitalization of this important Orillia landmark. Thank you to the architects, project team, and City of Orillia for trusting us with this marquee project.
As mentioned above, if you’ve got a large-scale or complex project, be sure to engage our sales and design team early. Whether you need custom bleachers, accessible solutions, or a complete athletic facility makeover, we’re here to help build a better game.
