A part of the Ktunaxa Nation, ʔaq̓am is a member community based on the values of family, unity and cooperation. Taking pride in their heritage, language and culture, the community operates a number of programs and services including an elementary school, daycare, after school and summer school programming, community health and education services, economic development, lands and natural resource management and housing and administrative services.
Accounting for the largest population of all Ktunaxa Nation Bands, the ʔaq̓am community also occupies over 18,000 acres of land under management.Located in the Rocky Mountain Trench in the East Kooteney region of southeastern British Columbia, roughly ten minutes north of Cranbrook.
In what was a monumental project that had been in the planning stages for quite some time, the community announced that they would begin construction of a state-of-the-art athletic facility in the ʔaq̓amnik school gymnasium.
The funding for the facility was secured back in 2012 as plans began to roll-out for the 10,000-sq. ft. school facility. As part of the project, our partners at RecTec Industries worked closely with the professionals at Silverado Industries when they were looking to outfit the new gymnasium with the very best athletic equipment.
As a new build, our team along with our partners at RecTec handles almost everything above ground level. We supplied the school with ceiling-suspended basketball systems, custom beam & pipe padding for the perimeter to make the gym safer during use. We also supplied volleyball systems, badminton systems, tip and roll bleachers, ball & post storage and plastic benches.
The products were all shipped directly to British Columbia where the team at RecTec handled the precision installation of all of the equipment.
Today what remains is a truly gorgeous athletic institution that will serve the student body and community for many years to come.
