One of our more recent, multi-facility projects brought us to the picturesque Ottawa Valley, just west of Canada’s capital region. Encompassing two school boards in the region, a number of schools have been operating with padding that no longer is deemed safe for use under current guidelines.
This project had us working at five different schools in both the Renfrew County District School Board and within the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board. The schools range in locations scattered throughout the Ottawa Valley starting in Arnprior and working up the line in schools in the Petawawa area.
Sport Systems was commissioned to remove the out-dated existing padding from each of the five schools as the pads no longer met the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA) guidelines. In addition to the removal of the existing padding, the school boards also ordered a number of replacement pads for multiple locations within the schools. The padding installation locations varied from school to school, but the bulk of the padding ordered was for use as protective wall padding in the gymnasiums of the school. The remainder of the padding was designed for use on stages and bleacher seating sections for additional safety for both spectators and participants.
The new padding was all constructed according to the current OPHEA guidelines and a number of the schools were supplied with customized logos and team colours on the padding for added school and team spirit.
Bishop Smith Catholic School (Pembroke, Ontario)
This high school is one of only two secondary schools within the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board. We outfitted both the large and the smaller-sized gym with customized wall padding and padding for the stage in the main gym of the high school.
St. Joseph Catholic School (Arnprior, Ontario)
This elementary school ordered protective wall padding for six different padding sections on the walls of their gymnasium.
St. Joseph Catholic School (Renfrew, Ontario)
The other secondary school within the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board ordered wall padding for five wall sections within their gymnasium and customized padding for the stage located in the gymnasium as well.
St. Thomas the Apostle (Renfrew, Ontario)
This elementary school is where our team manufactured and installed safety wall padding for five sections of wall inside the gymnasium as well as a complete padding solution for the stage.
Valour JK-12 School (Petawawa, Ontario)
Turning to the Renfrew County District School Board, our final school within this large padding project brought us to the Valour JK-12 School. In addition to two wall padding sections in the gymnasium and a custom stage padding solution, the school also ordered a pair of very unique bleacher section pads. These pads were installed on a set of telescopic gym bleachers that are located directly beneath the basketball system and are easily and quickly removed when the bleachers are extended for use.
