Heading out to western Canada one of our latest projects landed us just outside of Vancouver in beautiful Coquitlam, British Columbia. Working closely with one of our newest partners at Smithscape Construction, we were brought in to help design a 10-row bleacher as part of some major upgrades to a local park.
After announcing the Mundy Park Pool Renewal in the summer 2023, the city of Coquitlam quickly got to work in planning the extensive project that would soon transform a 50-year-old facility. While the park was still operational, it was in need of upgrades to meet current sustainability and accessibility standards as well as community needs and interest.
In addition to the new bleacher seating we were tasked with manufacturing, the park was also set to improve the current pool with a new beach entry, splash area, lazy river and an even deeper deep end. The plans also outlined the expansion of the existing deck space for spectators, new changerooms and an improved drop-off and pick-up area, among other improvements.
As stated above, not only were all of these initiatives designed to improve current offerings, each was designed with accessibility in mind, including the new bleacher.
Designed to approximately 250 spectators, our new 10-row model BL-10TB-46-8x24 BF4 has been an instant crowd favorite - particularly with those looking for accessible and barrier-free seating options. Designed with customized barrier-free access points and an aisle and handrail, this bleacher model is designed to meet NBC 2015, ICC-300 and IBC code compliance.
Following the manufacturing process, the bleacher was shipped directly to Smithscape in British Columbia, where their experienced team worked diligently to get the seating structure installed on schedule. With some site challenges, including the fact that the existing concrete pad had a significant slope to it, the Smithscape team did a great job of adding custom shims to the bleacher structure during the installation process.
While the entirety of the project did get delayed ever so slightly, the new bleacher was installed on-time and is now ready for the coming swim season where spectators and participants alike can enjoy for years to come.
With an excellent job in our back pockets with our newest partners in Western Canada, we look forward to tackling more exciting projects in the future with our esteemed colleagues at Smithscape Construction.
