Having lived through two World Wars and the Great Depression, Georges Vanier is perhaps one of Canada’s most decorated soldiers. The first French Canadian Roman Catholic to hold the appointment of Governor-General of Canada, he was also a fearless leader. His legend lives on throughout Canada as both a respected diplomat and humanitarian, having dedicated much of his life to helping destitute refugees following the war.

As such an iconic figure in Canadian history, it is no surprise that his name now appears in history books, on buildings, and on plaques across the country. Additionally, his name is honoured by a number of schools including the home of one of our latest projects at Georges Vanier Catholic School in Belleville, Ontario.

Nestled along the eastern end of Lake Ontario, Belleville is located centrally between Ottawa and
Toronto and offers residents and visitors alike a pleasant and historical experience.

We were commissioned earlier this year by the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board to have a look inside the school’s gymnasium and propose some updated solutions to the current basketball systems in place. Having been installed many years ago, it was becoming apparent that years’ worth of dunks and layups had been wearing on the systems, leaving them tired-looking and outdated. In fact, one of the systems was broken and had not been in use for quite some time.

After a quick assessment, our team got to work on a solution that would include both new backboards and hoops for the school’s gymnasium. Upon approval from the school district, the new basketball systems were immediately shipped directly to the school.

Our experienced installation team was quickly on site and made short work out of removing the
outdated systems, replacing them with something that could stand the test of time for the next generation of athletes.

We’d like to thank both the school and district for the fast and easy approval and installation of the basketball systems and look forward to watching the athletics program continue to flourish.
