We field a lot of questions around here but when the phone rings and our dealer Blue Imp is on the other end, we know the project will be special — we just didn’t know how truly special this one would be.
Looking to set up some spectator seating at the Saamis Tepee, also known as the world' s largest tepee, our dealer turned to the experts at Canada’s Bleacher Source to help get the job done.
This truly unique structure was designed and built for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and consists of a massive steel structure representing an Indigenous Canadian tepee. Following its tenure for the Olympics, a Medicine Hat entrepreneur bought the incredible structure and relocated it along the Trans-Canada Highway back in 1991. Standing at about 215 feet tall (or the approximate height of a 20-storey building) with a 160-foot diameter and an 800-metric-ton foundation, the Saamis Tepee is impossible to miss and a sight to behold.
Ringed by ten large storyboards painted by Indigenous artists, the structure tells stories of First Nations culture and history. This historical treasure also sits above the Saamis Archaeological Site, which just so happens to be one of the most important Northern Plains archaeological locations in Canada.
It’s a special place. And it was in need of some special seating.
To satisfy the requirements, our team proudly supplied a pair of our fully code-compliant 3-row, 24-foot aluminum bleachers. Together the two units now allow for seating of up to 96 spectators — perfect for the events and gatherings that take place at the Tepee.
We’d like to offer up a big thanks to the team at Blue Imp for bringing us in on this unique opportunity that now allows all of us to see our product installed at such a historically distinctive site as the Saamis Tepee.
If you are in need of bleachers for your next project, big or small, be sure to bring our team into the mix during the planning process early. We’ll help you pick the right product exactly as required for your unique situation.
