Michele heights is a social housing community located in Ottawa’s west end and comprises of 130 housing units that serve about 500 residents. . Built in the 1970s, this housing community is rich in cultural diversity and provides affordable housing for those who are new to Canada.
At the heart of this community is the Michele Heights Community Centre, which contains amenities such as a divisible gymnasium, a kitchen, and a meeting room for community-focused events. Recently the community centre went through a number of renovations to upgrade the gymnasium, equipment and facility, enabling it to continue to host a variety of programs aimed at improving the health of the community.
As part of the renovation, the expertise of Sport Systems was called upon to aid the organization in removing and replacing the community centre’s basketball systems. Our first task was to safely and efficiently remove the existing wall mounted basketball structures, backboards and hoops. Their old basketball set-up consisted of outdated backboards and hoops and the facility looked to significantly improve their basketball systems during the renovation.
Our team supplied and installed brand new wall mounted basketball backstops featuring side folding structures that easily allow maintenance staff to quickly move these systems out of the way for other events held in the gymnasium. The community centre also opted for premium-grade and regulation-sized glass backboards complete with breakaway goals and PMCE backboard safety padding.
The gymnasium was also equipped with a brand new gym floor as part of this extensive renovation. Today, the Michele Heights Community Centre continues to proudly serve its community by providing its residents with the very best in athletic equipment for the heart of their community-focused programs and activities.
