We’re fortunate to call Canada’s National Capital Region home for a variety of reasons, one of which being, the choice of professional sports. Depending on how long you’ve been in the area, you would know that it was something generations of residents long ago rallied around and eventually built. With CFL football and OHL hockey being long-standing traditions here in Ottawa, we eventually were awarded our own NHL team in the mid-1990s and have continued to expand on athletic offerings ever since.

Given the industry we serve, it’s truly a bonus that we are often called upon to help service and work alongside these prestigious organizations and when the call came in to help out one of Ottawa’s newest franchises, we were chomping at the bit.

As part of the expansion of the National Lacrosse League, Ottawa was recently granted a team to compete at the national level. After announcing the arrival of the Ottawa Black Bears last year, our community has been abuzz at yet another professional sports franchise coming to town. With the season opener scheduled for the end of this month, preparations for the team have been underway for a number of months now.

In addition to getting the team settled into their home rink at the Canadian Tire Centre, arrangements at their nearby practice facility were required as well. Sharing the Bell Sensplex with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, the Black Bears would also be utilizing this state-of-the-art facility for their practices. Consisting of four ice surfaces and one field house, the latter will be used by the Black Bears for their practices from here on out. After being contracted to install some netting in the same facility a few years back, our phone rang again, this time to help add additional netting to the very same space.

Looking to add additional netting panels to protect the entire south wall of the building, our team was again called on-site to take detailed measurements and assess the amount of netting required. Our team was quick to draw up a new barrier that was soon approved by key stakeholders from within the organization.

Following the manufacturing process, our installation team was once again on site to complete the final install, just in time for practice. Today the facility is used by the team as they prepare for their inaugural season and we can’t help but be thrilled to have been involved in bringing professional lacrosse to Canada’s capital.
