If you, like our friends at the Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School in Sault Saint Marie, Ontario, are looking for a fully accessible and elevated bleacher, this might be something you’ll want to have a look at.
With the ability to seat 366 people - including four barrier-free seats complete with companion seating - we designed our new 8-row bleacher model (BL-8TB-81- 8 x 24-36E-BF4) almost specifically for this project. With a fence and a track separating the bleacher from the action on the field, the Algoma District School Board came to us to help them design the right solution for their unique situation.
In an effort to give spectators the best sightlines possible, we needed this particular bleacher to be elevated by 36” to allow for the best possible view from the seating platform. With that design element out of the way, we also were tasked with ensuring that the bleacher was completely barrier-free in nature. With accessibility for all in mind, we designed and installed a switch-back ramp that would allow those in wheelchairs to easily access the bleacher at their own pace. Once arriving on the deck platform, the bleacher also featured four barrier-free seating areas along with companion seating, allowing for everyone and their aides, assistants or family members to sit alongside them.
In this particular project, our team went the extra mile to assist in designing the concrete pad that needed to be poured beneath the bleacher by a local contractor. In a true team effort, our team not only designed this new bleacher, but also installed it on a timeline and without issue for our partners at the board.
Fitted with our standard hot-dipped galvanized understructure, this bleacher is sure to stand the test of time, not only at this school, but at the many other locations we expect to install this new bleacher model at in the future.
If you or your school is looking for a custom approach to barrier-free bleachers, don’t hesitate to give our team a call. With over 45 years of experience, if you can dream it, we can build it.
