Located just inside Canada’s National Capital Region is the small town of St. Albert, Ontario. The small, Franco-Canadian community is located within what is known as The Nation, a municipality in the united counties of Prescott and Russel. In addition to having a rich history including a nearby ghost town, St. Albert is also home to one of the nation’s oldest cheesemakers.
In the fall of 2022, we were contacted by a school in the region that was looking to perform some upgrades and modifications to one of its rooms. Looking to create a room for students requiring a safe and calming space, key stakeholders from the school were looking for a custom padding solution that could cover both the flooring and the walls of the room.
The Facilities Supervisor was integral to the development of the project. Despite having little previous experience with wall padding, or more precisely, with padded rooms, he was appreciative of our response and willingness to assist in the development of the project. Our team headed east and had an in-person meeting with him to get a feel for the room and to take some detailed measurements while on location.
After measurements were taken, our drafting team produced a full set of shop drawings to share with the client for approval. With plans laid out in a streamlined manner, the client had the ability to view the room prior to it being built. With the safety and security of their students in mind, this is often one of the most important steps in the padded room design process.
Upon approvals of the drawings, our manufacturing team got to work producing all of the specialized padding required to pull off the final installation. Once completed, the pads were sent out with our team to be installed at the school in a timely manner.
The pads have been installed and when we checked back with the Facilities Supervisor, he was quick to say he is very happy with the end results. Today, the room provides a safe and secure space for students in need and removes any risk of injury to those that utilize this safe area.
