Whether renovating an existing gymnasium or designing and building a brand new one, selecting the right basketball backstops for your facility can be a complicated undertaking. While ceiling-suspended and portable systems both have their pros and cons, for most situations, not much can beat the versatility and strength that a solid ceiling-suspended basketball system can provide for your gym.

In addition to their ability to easily fold up or down and out of the way, ceiling-suspended basketball systems come equipped with a number of safety accessories such as safety straps, winches and solid braces.

Below we have compiled a few of the most common factors facility owners and operators take into consideration before ultimately selecting new basketball equipment for their gymnasium.

These portable units also work perfectly for various and/or temporary locations such as outdoor or indoor tournaments or community events, etc.

Telescopic Bleacher Replacement for Two Ontario High Schools

Last summer, we were commissioned by the Algoma District School Board to replace and upgrade the existing telescopic bleacher systems at three separate schools. This summer, we were again commissioned to do the same at an additional two schools under the same board.

The first site was at Elliot Lake Secondary School in Elliot Lake, Ontario and the second was at W.C. Eaket Secondary School in Blind River, Ontario. Both schools were previously equipped with wooden bleachers that needed to be removed and replaced by a state-of-the-art telescopic bleacher system. Much like the three schools completed last year, these two schools were in need of an upgraded seating solution for their growing sports programs in their gymnasiums. The school board once again turned to our team at Sport Systems to design, supply and install what would be their future bleacher seating for years to come.

The Best Accessories for Your Gym Floor Cover

One of the biggest investments many gymnasiums and indoor athletic facilities make is with their gym flooring. For every 100 gyms that feature a hardwood court surface, an estimated 95 of those are constructed of highly priced northern hard maple. As one can imagine, constructing a floor surface with high-grade material such as maple can be quite costly.

When it comes to protection, nothing beats the protection of a durable, vinyl gym floor cover. These covers are designed to protect gym flooring surfaces during non-sporting events and pay dividends to operators over the long run.

Netting and Pole Padding for Ottawa’s First Archery Tag Facility

A new and rapidly growing sport has just touched down in Canada’s capital region as Archery Games recently opened Ottawa’s very first Archery Tag location. Archery Tag is a sport that resembles dodge ball, but without the balls. In this intense game, participants are equipped with bows and patented foam-tipped arrows.

Two teams are separated by a ‘safe zone’ and are equipped with specialized targets. Each team battles to tag opponents with their arrows and also knock out the five discs that make up the opposing team’s target. Much like dodge ball, players are eliminated once tagged with an opposing arrow, but are eligible for return when a target spot is knocked out or when one of their teammates is able to catch an opposing team’s arrow.

This past spring, we partnered up with a group of researchers from Seneca College in Markham, Ontario to perform an intensive applied research and innovation project. The goal of this project was to undertake exploratory secondary market research on five Middle Eastern countries including: United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait and evaluate those that might offer attractive business opportunities for Sport Systems moving forward.

This project took place over a fourteen-week period in which all the work involved was undertaken in collaboration with and with guidance from the Seneca College Applied Research and Innovation Department, with the ongoing help of the Seneca College Library Specialists and the support staff of the Faculty of Business.

All of the secondary market research used in conjunction with this project was carried out according to the Forum for International Trade and Training’s (FITT) format and requirements.

Working closely with our management team for the duration of this project, Seneca’s researchers introduced a number of weighted factors based on our preferences, such as country size and future growth potential, political characteristics, strength of demand of associated products, commercial infrastructure and more.
