It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our own, our co-founder and friend Dennis Mould.

Living down the road from the business he and his son Matthew built, we are surrounded by Dennis’ legacy; a thriving business that now operates on a global scale, a distinguished career serving his neighbours and community and a lifetime commitment to family.

Survived by his wife Christine of over 50 years, his sons Matthew and Nathan and his two beautiful grandchildren, Dennis took pride both in the many things he built with his hands, and in those he gained through his sense of integrity and fair play, his interest in and compassion for others and his unmatched zest for life. He was a pillar in his local community here in the Ottawa Valley and had a knack for making friends everywhere he went, accompanied by his reputation for doing exactly what he’d said he’d do, whether personally or professionally.

After retiring from a 28-year stint with the Ottawa Fire Department, he poured his heart and soul into co-founding Sport Systems with his son and current Sport Systems President, Matthew. Together, they formed an unstoppable alliance that would go on to design one of the most indestructible basketball hoops the market had ever seen and expand aggressively from there.

The business Dennis helped found continues to operate near the same small town he and his wife settled down in back in 1977. And while it retains so much of Dennis’ small-town, can-do attitude, it’s grown far beyond that and now serves customers from around the world. A true testament to his character and larger-than-life vision for the future.

Today, our company exists to help our customers Build A Better Game, a motto exemplified by our organization’s founding father throughout his entire life. Dennis took pride in leaving things in a better condition than when he found them and everything he touched in his life was a testament to that commitment.

Dennis Mould passed away peacefully in November inside the very home he built with his own two hands, surrounded by the family he nurtured so carefully with all of his heart.

The Mould family would like to offer a special thank you to the Almonte and Ottawa Hospitals for the care he received throughout this difficult journey. We encourage those interested in donating to his legacy to consider strengthening our community by donating to the Almonte General Hospital Fairview Manor Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at the Almonte Civitan Club.
