If you’ve been following us for any period of time, you’ll know that we take every opportunity to brag about the products and services we provide. Having been in the sports equipment industry for over 40 years, we’ve been through a lot and that has helped us provide the best service and the best products to the marketplace for decades.

What we don’t often talk about is the visionary people behind the scenes. Those who have been a part of the company since its inception and who have, with the help of many others, shaped the trajectory of our company over the years.

One such person is our fearless leader and President, Matt Mould. After his father founded the company in the late 1970s, Matt worked tirelessly to make Sport Systems what it is today, and more importantly, what it will become in the future.

For those who don’t know us well, our roots are humble. We don’t work out of a large office in a large city. Quite the opposite, actually.

We were formed and founded in Almonte, Ontario, a small town of about 6,000 residents and also the birthplace of the inventor of basketball, Dr. James Naismith.

We still call Almonte and the municipality of Mississippi Mills home where our factory and headquarters are located. A vital part of the community for many years, Matt was recognized for his efforts earlier this year by Lanark County council.

As part of the Awards of Excellence held by Mississippi Mills, these awards recognize and honour citizens or organizations that have made a significant and/or extraordinary contribution to Lanark County.

Our president was honoured to accept his award in the categories of Business/Agriculture/Industry/Tourism alongside Sue Doran of Perth for Volunteerism/Community Service/Youth.

Nominated by Shaun Donaldson, among others, it was noted that Matt’s vision and care for his community were what made him the perfect recipient of this award.

“Matthew has been able to honour his Lanark County roots because his priority is to do the bulk of the work (design and manufacturing) locally at his company address in Almonte,” Donaldson said. “This translates into significant benefits for Lanark County, including employment, training for people, career development and benefits for other businesses by purchasing material, supplies and other related activities.”

We’d like to congratulate Matt on another job well done. It’s an honour to work with a team so filled with integrity and one that is being led into the future by such a visionary businessman.
