Western University, in London, ON, is well loved for its athletic programs by students and fans alike. Recently, we highlighted Sport Systems' acquisition of a major project involving the TD Waterhouse Stadium. While such jobs are exciting to work on, Sport Systems recognizes the importance of our smaller-scale projects and executing them with the same level of excellence. For that reason, Sport Systems eagerly accepted the invitation to install floor coverings in Western’s gym.
Western University’s athletic department has made considerable efforts towards the inclusion of students who are not competitive athletes. Offering programs such as intramural sports, dance lessons, kickboxing, cycling classes, and 5km training, their facility is frequented not only by students, but by faculty, staff, and community members as well. With so many individuals enjoying the facilities, the importance of maintaining them is vitally important to the school.
With the goal of installing coverings on both the first and second floors of the gym, Sport Systems ran into the issue of inadequate storage space for the gym floor covers. The number of coverings needed to properly protect the floors exceeded the space available to store them. However, rather than terminating the project, Sport Systems seized the opportunity to come up with a creative alternative.
The solution that Sport Systems came up with was to not only design a new layout for the equipment, but to also create a new method of storage altogether. Typically installing each unit side by side to the floor, Sport Systems instead installed each rack on the wall. These racks were further staggered to allow for even more units to be placed. As a result of our team’s dedication to excellence, the finished results provided high-quality gym floor coverings, made easily accessible, that will protect the floors for years to come.
