Along with the arrival of spring, the last couple of months has brought plenty of growth. Along with the sprouting of flowers and the budding of trees, it also marks a time for the re-emergence of outdoor sports, including baseball.
Serving as home to the Ottawa Titans baseball team, Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park has been a fixture of Canada’s capital since it was built back in 1992. Having served a number of teams over the years, it’s become a staple of summer baseball here in our fair city.
While unable to offer year-round play due to the winter climate in Ottawa, the spring and summer seasons offer the perfect weather for baseball well into the fall. As part of each year’s preparations, our team is called to the park to help take down and set up the netting barriers we installed a few seasons ago.
Working to keep errant balls in play, these massive netting structures are an important part of keeping spectators safe at the old ball park. Each year, our team arrives in the fall to take down all of the netting at the ballpark and ensures it gets placed into storage for the winter season. With high winds and cold temperatures, we always recommend similar protocols where possible, for outdoor netting barriers.
The netting remains in storage until the spring melt when our team again visits the stadium to kick things off for another season of baseball. Each spring, our team arrives on site and prepares the netting for installation. With the help of scissor lifts, our installation team not only hangs the netting back up, but makes a point to inspect the netting for any possible wear and tear or damage that might need to be addressed.
We were fortunate enough to have a wonderfully sunny day for this year’s installation and wish the Titans nothing but success for this year’s season.
