Throughout 2013 and 2014, Maurice Lapointe High School in Kanata, Ontario has been in the midst of a large-scale addition to the entire school. The scope of work included a new cafeteria, gymnasium and sports field for the high school, a member of the Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario (CEPEO).

In addition to the construction and development of a new gymnasium, Maurice Lapointe was also looking to enhance their current gymnasium as well. We were called upon by the CEPEO to tackle the job of upgrading both gymnasiums by providing a number of products suited specifically for both spaces.

New Gym Upgrades

As part of the school’s Phase 2 building construction, a large two-storey secondary gymnasium was added to the school which aims to accommodate up to 700 occupants and provides a state-of-the-art facility to serve their students and the surrounding community. As part of the completion of the project, we were to provide Maurice Lapointe High School with new basketball systems, retractable bleachers, a new gym divider curtain and customized permanent wall padding.

A big part of some of the projects we undertake here at Sport Systems is retrofitting existing facilities with both equipment and programs that aid in ensuring future safety for both facility operational staff and participants. A large area of concern for many schools and facilities is aging equipment like gym dividers and partitions that can easily become quite dangerous if not serviced properly.

We recently were commissioned to remove and dispose of an aging and non-functioning folding hard gym partition for St. Joseph’s High School in Renfrew, Ontario. In its place we supplied and installed a brand new top-roll gym divider curtain complete with electric operation and key switch.

This past June, Carleton University in Ottawa awarded a contract to Davan Group Inc. to convert their old practice area from a natural surface to a state-of-the-art artificial field, along with a number of other site improvements including landscaping, natural stone retaining walls and the sports furnishings for the field.

When it came to selecting a sports equipment and infrastructure supplier and manufacturer, the university ultimately chose Sport Systems to provide their new field with the necessary equipment.

The university was also looking for a certain level of personalization with their football uprights and we proudly printed and installed custom logos to the padded areas of both football uprights.

Given our years of experience taking arena bleachers to the next level through seating upgrades, Ominsport turned to us to design and manufacture the bleacher seating needed to suit their clients’ needs.

The bleacher system was all based upon the foundation of a galvanized steel angle frame under structure, combined with an elevated front deck with custom stair case access for patrons at either end.

To help keep maintenance low, the arena bleachers were designed with a fully closed aluminum deck design. This unique design eliminates any garbage or debris from falling beneath the structure and allows operations staff an easy to clean bleacher seating system. Our design team also was able to include notched out areas around the penalty boxes, allowing for a virtually seamless fit to the existing design of the arena.
