Gym Floor Covers - University Of Kentucky

Most gym floor cover systems comprise of multiple pieces allowing your gymnasium some versatility when covering your floor. This article will briefly go over a few adhesives that we recommend and a few that do not belong anywhere near your gymnasium floor.

Glues & Other Adhesives

We highly recommend against the use of any glues or other residential or industrial grade adhesives for use on your gymnasium floor or cover. Glues and adhesives are prone to leakage and can be extremely difficult to loosen or remove from covers and gym floors.

Tape

The Maple Floor Manufacturers Association does not recommend the use of masking, theatrical, construction, electrical, duct or any other adhesive type tape found on the market today. The reasoning is simple; it is highly likely that the tape, when removed, will peel away layers of the floor’s surface finish.

Aluminum Bleachers

Aluminum bleachers have been in use for decades in ball parks, race tracks, football stadiums and many other sporting venues. When compared to the wooden bleachers we used to see at sporting venues, it’s apparent that the durability of aluminum is much greater than that of wood.

Sports netting and more importantly the material it is made out of is subject to a variety of tests before it is put to use in its chosen application. In the sporting world, we see this applied with golf cage, batting cage and barrier netting applications.

Testing the strength of the net is done in a couple of different ways; break strength testing and burst strength testing. Here we will explain the differences between the two types of testing.

Break Strength

In its simplest form, break strength testing determines the how much tension a strand can endure before “necking”. Necking is simply when the material’s cross section begins to bend significantly. Basically identifying the materials tensile strength by pushing it to its limits is what is accomplished by using Break Strength testing.

Youth competitiveness in sports is healthy, but it can lead kids to injury. By taking the necessary safety precautions in your sports facility, you can help prevent your players from getting hurt during gameplay. 

Millions of high school students take to the field every year for a season of their favorite sport that always feels like it ends too soon. Of the many virtues of youth is the raw passion that embodies young people in all that they do, especially on the playing field. During an eight-week season, student athletes will give 100% every day. It’s getting late in the game. The starting lineup has been running up and down the court for what feels like an eternity. I hope your second string players had a nice place to sit for the first half! Make sure your athletes have a proper place to rest their legs: on a sturdy aluminum and steel bench!
