Outdoor sports equipment and infrastructure such as bleachers are exposed to a variety of different weather conditions and over time require maintenance or eventual replacement. As this school year comes to a close and with a new one just around the corner, Woodroffe High School of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, commissioned us to remove their existing combination soccer and football goal posts and replace them with a new product.

Our combination football and soccer goals are a popular choice among educational facilities and municipalities where multi-use fields are present. These combination goals allow a permanent fixture that satisfies the needs of two separate sports and are built to endure the toughest weather conditions.

These goals consist of an 8’ x 24’ soccer goal opening with solid 4” square tubing forming the frame of the goal. A two-piece cross bar and the 20’ high football uprights are constructed using 2” square tubing and the unit is completely sandblasted and powder coated white for a chip-resistant finish.

College football teams forming an employee union? Now I’ve seen everything. It sounds farfetched, but unionize they shall. After a shocking ruling by the National Labor Review Board (NLRB), football players at Northwestern University have been granted employee status, meaning they have every right to form a union. The life of a college athlete can’t be so bad that they need to seek union representation, so what gives?

Their reasoning:

First of all, Northwestern University football players, like many other student athletes, dedicate upwards of 40-50 hours per week to their sport, meaning these guys are already working overtime before you even start counting their credit hours.

American football is a long-time favorite in the United States, for athletes and spectators alike. Kids fall in love with the game after their first Pop Warner practice, and parents are proud to see their little star getting involved with an activity that is fun for the whole family.

Holidays like Thanksgiving in America often bring family members together for a game of friendly two-hand-touch - that is, until it’s time to watch their favorite team’s kickoff for the Thanksgiving Day NFL matchups. Super Bowl Sunday is practically a holiday in the US, gathering people together for no other reason than to celebrate the National Football League Championship.

While throwing the old pigskin is fun, nothing beats watching the pros make those hard tackles. But for years now, the elephant in the room regarding the rough nature of NFL and NCAA football in particular has been the consequential concussion rates among players.

Tom Dempsey holds the record for longest field goal in an NFL game at a whopping 63 yards. 

Tom Dempsey only has one and a half feet. 

Maybe that half foot gave him a distinct advantage. Perhaps it forced him to train harder than the next guy. Either way, its easy to overlook the efforts of a kicker. Though they often score points when it matters most, they never seem to garner the same respect as a quarterbacks or receiver. Not to mention they're paid way less!

Football goal posts may seem like an afterthought to an outdoor facility. They're just there on the periphery, used only for a single sport and only a few times a game.
