Towards the beginning of the summer, we introduced Marian High School to our readers while highlighting the Indoor Telescopic Bleachers that we provided for them. While most would expect a private, all-girls Catholic school to emphasize the value of extracurricular activities, Marian High School’s devotion to sports has earned them quite the reputation. Offering 11 Class A, state-sanctioned sports to their students, it was easy to see why the initial project we completed was so important. However, the addition of new indoor seating was only the beginning of our professional relationship with the school. Being recruited by the institution once again, our team began work on another seating solution — one that would be installed outdoors.

Whether it be a new build or a renovation to an existing facility, when it comes to planning prospective seating, there is much to take into consideration. While to some, it might seem as easy as picking a number out of thin air in reality, that could not be further from the truth.

With the changing needs of many facilities, the question could be answered using a subtraction or an addition type of formula. With many stadiums, arenas and other locations opting for lower seat counts in hopes of a better spectator experience, the answer has progressed beyond the “go big or go home” mentality of not long ago.

As you prepare to plan seating for your new or existing location, here are a few key factors every planner should take into account before placing an order on new fixed seating.

We’ve all seen them on national sports broadcasts, celebrities lining the sidelines of professional basketball games with what appear to be the best seats in the house. While these premium seats provide athletes and celebrities with an exciting close-up courtside experience, they also serve a variety of purposes for athletic facilities and programs.

Portable chairs used for courtside seating are a very versatile investment. We know that sporting events and university lectures aren’t exactly black tie affairs, but sometimes bleacher seating just doesn’t cut it. While a lecture hall is no place for doing the wave, a pep rally probably shouldn’t be held in an auditorium. These types of venues, and the events they house, call for a classier style of fixed seating.

When a college student takes his seat in the classroom, he doesn’t need a level of comfort that rivals the recliner in his dorm room, (in fact, it’d be best if it was nowhere near that comfortable…). What student does need is a supportive chair to keep him alert, and a desk surface for taking notes.
