One of our more recent projects landed us in Ville-Marie, or more commonly known as Old Montreal. The hustling, bustling and culturally diverse city is the most populous in the province of Quebec and was once the commercial capital of Canada until the city of Toronto took its place in the 1970s.

This project took us to the southeastern portion of the city, where we joined forces with our partners at Constructions et Installations Sportifs for this installation. The site was Edward Murphy School, a member of the English Montreal School Board featuring both an English core program as well as French immersion programming for its student body.

Working well within the founding mandate of the club, the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston has been providing a safe and supportive place for children and youth since the club officially opened in 1993. After ten long years without a community sports complex, a Northwest Territories community finally has a new facility to call their own.  With the construction of the building completed in the fall of 2016, the new 50,000 square foot facility took nearly two years to build and now houses the community’s very own ice rink, gymnasium, youth centre, exercise room and office space.

Working with a nearly $15 million budget, the small Tlicho community of Behchoko is home to roughly 2,000 residents who until recently, shared the facilities of two local schools for athletic use.

Typically reserved to divide large gymnasium spaces for added versatility and additional use in community centres, schools, and universities, one of our more recent projects saw us designing a customized gym divider curtain for a Quebec residence.

Operated either by man-made or electric power, these large curtains are available in a number of different configurations and in many cases, need to be customized to meet the unique requirements of each space.  As some buildings are equipped with closed ceilings or rafters or simply to do not have the available space to accommodate certain configurations, we often call upon our skilled design team to create tailored products.

One of our recent projects brought us to the picturesque Canadian prairies to the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame located in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.  Wrought with humble beginnings back in the 1920’s, today this high school is one of the premier private Catholic education institutions in the country, committed to developing young men and women to become purposeful leaders with virtuous character and a global mindset.

Known for their competitive spirit and propensity for victory, the Notre Dame Hounds are renowned for their athletic prowess.  In 2006 the school’s athletic programming yielded more than $1.6 million in academic and athletic scholarships to American and Canadian universities.

What Drives Our Gym Divider Curtains

Depending on the intended use and proposed space allowances, our line of gym divider curtains can come equipped in a number of different variations.  As no two facilities alike, the same can be said for our five main gym divider curtain models, each engineered and manufactured to conform to different designs and situations.

Used to safely and effectively separate areas in large spaces such as gymnasiums and other facilities, these curtains are constructed with heavy-duty vinyl and mesh (depending on configuration) and are built to withstand abuse.

What might be more significant than their rugged appearance is the power that safely drives these curtains.  With busy schedules, multiple-use facilities need a curtain that can be either opened or closed within a matter of minutes.  The average height of the majority of school gyms, for example, start at around 25-30 feet so as one can imagine, these curtains require a fair bit of power to move them around.

Two years ago, we were commissioned to renovate and install new athletic equipment at a newly acquired facility by the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston.  At that time, our team provided that facility with a new walk-draw gym divider curtain as well as customized netting for the mezzanine section of the gymnasium.

Fast forward to 2016 and once again we are hard at work with our long-time partners at the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston and Area, this time aiding them in adding vital equipment to a recently renovated gymnasium in the Robert Meek Youth Centre.

Anchoring the eastern border of the Greater Toronto Area and the Golden Horseshoe, lays Oshawa; a town deeply rooted in the automotive industry and nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario.  A town once recognized as Canada’s automotive hub, today is shaping itself as more of an education and health sciences hub, serving as the home of three post-secondary educational institutions as well as Lakeridge Health and Education Research Network; the largest, multi-specialty medical group practice in the country.

One of our more recent projects landed us in the city-operated Legends Centre, located just north of the city’s centre.  This facility serves as a central location for the city’s sports and leisure activities and is the hub of Oshawa’s activeOshawa programming.  The facility includes a 4-pad arena, a leisure pool complete with a lazy river and waterslide, a fitness centre, an indoor track, and an outdoor playground with accompanying splash pad.

With a new school year just around the corner, athletic directors, planners and maintenance staff are busy preparing for the upcoming term.  With a new influx of students, programming and amenities, now is the perfect time to quickly inspect your athletic equipment.

While in most cases, a professional inspection is always your best bet, they are not always entirely necessary, especially if your facility is diligent about year-round maintenance.  If however, you are unsure as to the condition of any piece of equipment, we urge you to schedule an inspection with a certified professional.

Here are few quick checks you and your staff can make in a number of different areas to ensure your athletic equipment such as basketball systems, bleachers and other sport-oriented products are ready to roll for the 2016-2017 season.
