While we typically service the industrial and institutional markets, oftentimes we lend our prowess to the residential crowd where and when possible.  From installing indoor or outdoor basketball systems, barrier netting projects, or providing hockey goals for backyard rinks, our products are used around the home more than most think.

One such area in which we provide a great deal of coverage for the residential market is within our custom padding department.  Due to the wide variety of uses and specific needs, we are seeing a much higher volume of residential padding projects coming into our facility.

Once again, we were hard at work at the prestigious Julia Dyckman ANDRUS Center in Yonkers, New York.  Earlier in the fall, we were involved in padding two other rooms located in the facility with the help of our partners at Tri-State Folding Partitions.

In that project, our team designed a complete padding solution for a small support room in the facility that had to accommodate an existing playhouse and structure previously installed in the room.

With that project in the rear view, our team once again got to work for ANDRUS, this time on a much larger sensory room.  These rooms are used to create an environment completely removed from outside distractions and come complete with audio and visual aids, promoting extreme relaxation.

Once again we found ourselves in the state of New York for one of our recent projects.  Located in Yonkers, The Julia Dyckman Andrus Center or ANDRUS is a private, non-profit organization that specializes in teaching children and families the skills to express and cope with strong emotions.  Providing childcare, home visiting, mental health services, residential treatments, and special education programs, ANDRUS aims to be a national leader in shaping policies and practices that give children and families the skills required to overcome challenges and adversity.

In the construction phase of their new facility, key stakeholders within the organization reached out to us in an attempt to secure a custom wall padding solution for a pair of rooms inside the facility.  As with any complete wall padding project, the nature of the project requires an on-site visit to really understand the complexities of the rooms and prospective padding.

As the summer months came to an end, our fall season immediately kicked into gear. While we are still completing the last few large-scale outdoor projects, we now begin to see more indoor-focused purchases such as basketball equipment, volleyball systems and a variety of wall and custom padding projects.

Our most recent project came to us out of the beautiful province of Quebec in historic Montreal. One of the city’s most prominent rehabilitation centres was in the market for some very specialized wall padding for a particular room in one of its many locations around the city.

The client was Le Centre de Réadaptation en Déficience Intellectuelle et en Troubles Envahissants du Développement de Montréal (CRDITED). An institution in the health and social services network, CRDITED provides specialized services for adaptation and rehabilitation for over 4500 people with intellectual disabilities and with autism spectrum disorder.

We specialize in a variety of different padding applications, where no two jobs ever seem to replicate one another. Our custom padding department is one of our most complex divisions as every surface, window, door, and angle must be taken into account during the design process.

We utilize the very best in technology and match it with our award-winning team members, each with years of experience in the custom padding field. While our padding department is deeply involved with many athletic-focused projects, in recent years we have witnessed our padding business grow exponentially into other niche markets.

In addition to traditional fitness applications such as training facilities and gymnasiums, a large portion of our custom padding department is dedicated to the production of fully padded rooms for a variety of different uses. While each padded room comes with different application requirements, the majority are used as a safety precaution in hospitals and health facilities or simply for providing relaxation, comfort or to heighten the senses.

As of late, we have been involved in projects aiming to design and build Snoezelen multi-sensory environments for clients around the globe. Here are some of the basics surrounding these popular sensory-focused padded rooms:

What is Snoezelen Multi-Sensory Environment?

This concept was actually designed by a pair of Dutch therapists in the late 1970’s who were working at a local centre for people experiencing intellectual disabilities. These therapists eventually would create an environment for their patients that would excite the senses and prove to be quite beneficial to their early subjects.

One of our busiest departments is our padding department. We receive thousands of inquiries, questions and requests for custom padding designs and solutions each year. As one can very well imagine, this portion of our business has expanded well beyond the traditional athletic applications such as gymnasiums and athletic floor mats. Today, we proudly equip a wide variety of organizations and facilities with highly detailed and highly customized padding solutions, where no two projects are ever the same.

Aside from the traditional applications, we design and create custom padded room designs for use in treatment centres and healthcare facilities such as hospitals. We provide many of our commercial and industrial clientele with strategically placed wall, column and frame padding to keep employees safe and also offer a padding line specifically designed for use with veterinary facilities, keeping staff and animals safe during their visits.

A priority of businesses, organizations and sport facilities is and always will be safety. Commercial buildings such as warehouses have stringent safety standards and are often rewarded for outstanding performance in maintaining and exceeding these standards.

Visualizing a finished project can prove to be difficult , especially when it comes to complex customizations of padded room configurations. With varying wall heights and shapes, doors, windows, electrical outlets and radiators or heating vents, padding a room can prove to be a challenge.

With some basic measurements and perhaps a quick site visit, our design team can quickly get your concept on paper, with every little detail taken into account. Our powerful 3D CAD Design software allows our designers to create, validate, communicate and manage the entire development process for each and every client.

Wall padding for padded rooms such as quiet rooms, seclusion rooms, time out rooms and remand rooms require not only that every piece of padding fit correctly, but that the walls have the right amount of padding with little to no exposure to the unpadded surface. Detailed measurements and images aid our design team in creating a mock design that helps our manufacturing department create the right padding, specifically cut for your unique design.
